About Us

Founded in 1934, the Golf Club was set up to promote the game of golf within Ordnance Survey.

Membership

Membership is open to any member of staff who works for or has worked for Ordnance Survey. This includes retired staff. There is a limited number of associate places within the club. At present this stands at 5.

Membership starts after the AGM which is usually held in October. The fees were increased at the 2002 AGM, to cover the cost of entering any of club competitions. Associate membership fees are £6.50 more, as they have to become an associate member of the OS Sports and Social Club. Membership rates are available on request. Please click here to ask for details.

Handicaps

The club is also authorised to provide a handicap if you do not belong to another club. Handicaps are assessed on three cards that you submit to the handicap secretary. At least two of the rounds must be played at the Southampton Municipal course. (Our home course)

Outings

The club arranges 4 outings to other golf clubs during the year, usually in May, June, July and September. These can be anywhere in Southern England, but normally confined to Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire, but sometimes a little further.

Competitions

Competitions are run throughout the summer months, including summer singles, pairs and greensomes. Monthly medal cards can be played between April and September. A winter knock out competition takes place during the winter months, and a Christmas and Easter competition are promoted during these periods. All competitions are free to enter!

Lessons

Lessons are arranged to start in April or May when the lighter evenings are here, and can be arranged for a lunchtime period if there is enough support. Lessons have taken place at Paultons Golf Centre and more recently at Southampton Municipal Golf Course. Lessons are subsidised, provided you are a member of the Golf Club. We would also encourage OS staff to join the OS Sports and Social Club and the Civil Service Sports Association, as they both support the club financially during the year.

Social matches

There are approximately 7 social matches arranged during the year. You can decide which matches you would like to be considered for, and it is up to the Captain of the day, who is invited to play. Of the matches you indicate we try to invite you to at least one of your chosen matches. These matches are usually subsidised in some way, either through reduced green fees or free food after the events. Our main aim is to give members their membership fees back in some form during the year.
